Buried Caesar

This month's Cover to Cocktails drink is the Buried Caesar! For those American friends that are reading, this is a Canadian version of a Bloody Mary, substituting the tomato juice for clamato juice. I chose this drink in honor of our book Findlay Donovan Is Killing it. In the book, our main character spills a Bloody Mary on a woman in the bar which first gave me the idea for this cocktail. To give it a twist, I decided to try and impart an earthy taste through a grass flavored vodka and some dill. The red color and the earthy flavor is representative of the murder and burial of the body at a sod farm in the book. The vodka used is also my mom's favorite, so I was glad to find an opportunity to use it!

Susan was a bit skeptical of the cocktail, as she doesn't like tomato juice, but she enjoyed it more than she thought with the use of clamato. I am a fan of Caesar's and enjoyed this one, although I would have added a bit more worcestershire sauce and tabasco. One of the things I love about Caesar's is all of the garnishes you can use! The traditional option is a celery stick, but various pickled things can be used. I put in some of my homemade spicy, pickled asparagus and Susan added a carrot. So feel free to get creative! Until next time have a drink, read a book and be happy!
