It's hard to believe it's already October, but here we are Cover to Cocktails fans! This month's cocktail is Edge of a Shantytown. Themed to the book Now Is Not The Time To Panic by Kevin Wilson, the name of this drink is part of a sort of mantra in the book. With a unique title comes a unique cocktail. I'm a fan of brandy but realized that we hadn't really used it...until now! Also, for whatever reason, brandy seemed like an Edge of Shantytown liquor. Mixed with some other fun liquors like triple sec and cherry, this cocktail is fun, fruity and will have your tastebuds wanting more. It was inspired by a Singapore Sling (which is a favorite of mine), but with some definite differences.

Susan and I both really liked this cocktail. The only reason with rated it the way we did was because this has been a stellar cocktail year and we had so many that were rated just a bit higher than we liked just a bit more. That being said, this is such a fun fruity delight! The orange and cherry pair beautifully with the brandy. Just a bit of a note, depending on the cherry liquor that you use you can adjust it so that it is not so strong as to take over the flavor. We had a strong cherry liquor and I added only a half shot for my husband and he really loved it. With a marachino cherry liquor you could add the full shot. Susan actually made her own cherry liquor to add (go Susan!). Susan also added whisky instead of brandy and enjoyed it, so this one is versatile! Any way you choose, this is a good one. Until next time have a drink, read a book and be happy!
