Wow, November has flown by and with it comes another cocktail. This month we are trying something I've named Ikú Ashê in honor of the book Children of Blood and Bone by Tomi Adeyami. In this book there are various clans of people who have magic. Each clan has a specific magic and with it a specific color associated with their magic. The main character comes from the clan Ikú (reapers) represented by a lavender color. The term Ashê refers to the magic that flows through the majis (people with magic). Hence, the name of the drink Ikú Ashê (reaper magic).
I definitely cheated for the first time when making this drink. I really wanted to try and get a lavender or purple color for the cocktail and still have it taste good. I started by looking for things that were red and blue in my liquor cabinet so when combined they would create a purple color. For red I found some slo gin and strawberry bailey's and blue curacao for the blue. I started experimenting with little success. I even tried to make a version of a paralizer and got a beautiful lavender color with an aweful taste. I then discovered some cranberry juice in my fridge and everything came together for this cocktail. It has a deeper purple than what I was hoping for but, the taste was great. Susan and I both loved it! It's tarte and citrusy and very smooth. Susan even mentioned that with the cranberry juice it has a holiday feel for the season. We hope you enjoy this one as much as we did. Until next time have a drink, read a book and be happy!
