This month we are breaking a bit with tradition and choosing a drink that both Susan and I have had before. The first cocktail that came to mind when I was reading The Lobotomist's Wife was a Paralyzer (simply for the appropriateness of the name). I had not had this cocktail in a long time but have fond memories of them from university and would make them at the restaurant where I worked. They take a bit of a unique mixing strategy to ensure your cream doesn't curdle, so follow the instructions for adding the ingredients. For a bit of a twist, I decided we would use vanilla vodka, but the traditional is unflavored vodka. For those of you who are fans reading in the US you may know this one as a Colorado Bulldog.
For both Susan and I, this drink is as good as we remembered it! We love the combination of the coke and cream, not too sweet and with a bit of fizz. The coke also cuts the heaviness of the cream. It definitely lives up to its name, they are so smooth that before you know it you will be feeling a bit paralyzed! Until next time have a drink, read a book and be happy!

Recipe
1 oz vanilla vodka
1 oz Kahlua
Cola
Heavy whipping cream
maraschino cherry
Add ice to a highball glass. Add the vodka and Kahlua. Fill the cup 3/4 to the top with cola. Gently stir. Fill to the top with the heavy whipping cream, pouring slowly into the cup over the back of a spoon (this will keep it from curdling). Top with a maraschino cherry.
