We know it's been a while since we posted but we're back, and with one of our favorite type of posts. It's time for our favorites (and one of the worst) cocktails of the year. The overall favorite was (drumroll please) Black Death! Despite its name this is one our tastiest and most creative cocktails ever. Themed around our non-fiction book Get Well Soon it encompasses the look of the black plague, producing a dark black color with a puss like foam on top. Despite the look the flavor is out of this world, focusing on creme de cassis which is a black current liquor. This was Susan's favorite cocktail and my second favorite of the year. Rounding out Susan's top three were Strawberry Fields in second (a wonderfully boozy strawberry milkshake) and in third Fox in a Box (a foamy raspberry cocktail). What have we learned from this season? Susan really likes foamy cocktails!

Next up were my favorites. We already know that my second place winner was Black Death, but my definite favorite was Peach Blossom Spring! Picking up on the name of the book and the various fruit trees in it, this cocktail has flavors of peach, orange and cherries. It is fruity, light and really easy to make. It was a definite favorite in our household. Coming in third for me was Brain Teaser. This cocktail was so different and I enjoyed it so much. Combining chocolate, almond and peanut butter flavors with green tea seemed like a stretch that I didn't think would work, but it did! It was a great summer drink that was flavorful without being sweet.

Our review wouldn't be complete without mentioning the one cocktail that Susan and I both disliked, Amazing Grace. We have really tried to like campari but we just can't. In the book Amazing Grace Adams they drink negronis, the classic campari cocktail. After a horrible first try at campari in our previous season we thought we would try in for a second time in a more classic recipe. While it was better than the first time, we still were not fans. So, we now know campari is not for us!

We hope you enjoyed the cocktails in 2024 as much as we did! We look forward to another year of great drinks and reads. Until next time have a drink, read a book and be happy!
