The last cocktail of the season is The Granny Apple in honor of our November books, An Elderly Lady Is Up To No Good and An Elderly Lady Must Not Be Crossed. I have to admit that I created this drink for another purpose though. My sister-in-law is getting married and asked if I could come up with a signature cocktail. Her colors are emerald green and gold, she likes vodka, nothing too sweet and white roses are her flowers. To represent those elements, I started playing around with the flavors in this cocktail to try and achieve a drink that tasted green but looked gold! So, this drink was born, and I thought the flavors suited our book well with the rose water and "granny" apple vodka.

Susan and I tried this drink and both thought it needed a bit of modification. The flavors were right, just the wrong proportions. It was too much rose water, so I adjusted that to allow the other flavors to shine a bit more. All of the flavors can be overpowering so getting the balance right has been a little tricky. The ratings are from our original try of this cocktail, but the below recipe is the modified version based on our conversation. I would also love to hear other people's thoughts, so if you try it add comments! Until next time have a drink, read a book and be happy!

Susan

Recipe

1 oz apple vodka

1/8 tsp rose water

2 dashes bitters

Ginger Ale

Apple for garnish

Put ice in a low ball glass. Add the first three ingredients. Top with ginger ale and stir. Cut a slice of apple. Use a small cookie cutter of choice (flower or plant related if you have). You can float your cut out slice on the top or your drink or place a slit in it and put it on the rim of your glass.
