Witch Dust

Welcome to the end of February Cover to Cocktails fans. This month we are making a cocktail called Witch Dust in honor of the book The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches. In honor of some of the characters in this book that have sweet personalities with a bit of spice, I created a cocktail that reflects this with a variety of sweet ingredients paired with things like ginger and cinnamon. I also wanted a gold color to mimic the color of the gold dust that witches can see around other witches. And of course no magic cocktail would be complete without a magic wand dipped in glitter and stirred into the cocktail to create that sparkling witch dust!

Susan and I both really enjoyed this cocktail. It reminded Susan of her favorite cocktail from season 1, Devil's Child. It had similar vibes of ginger beer and cinnamon but this cocktail uses rum and apple vodka instead of amaretto. Personally, I love experimenting with different flavored simple syrups as a way to impart flavor into cocktails. This one was not a disappointment, and I really enjoyed the cinnamon flavor. I also really liked mixing the apple vodka for an almost apple pie feel. If you like that sort of vibe in a drink I would even add more to this cocktail. This one definitely has a bit of a kick but in a flavorful spicy way from the ginger beer. We hope you enjoy it as much as we did. Until next time have a drink, read a book and be happy!

Recipe

1 oz Spiced Rum

.5 oz Apple Vodka

.5 oz Cinnamon Simple Syrup (cinnamon stick required)

Ginger Beer

Edible Glitter (Gold is best but any color will work)

Make simple syrup by combining 1/2 cup water to 1/4 cup sugar. Heat over low heat until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and add 1 cinnamon stick. Let sit for a couple of hours.

Put ice in a rocks glass. Add the rum, vodka and simple syrup. Top with ginger beer. Dip the end a dry cinnamon stick into your glitter to create your "magic wand". Use it to stir your glitter into your cocktail. Enjoy!
