This month we are making a drink called a Medieval Mango. We read the book, The Switch, where a grandmother and granddaughter switch places in an effort to jump-start some change their lives. While taking the place of her grandmother, Lena ends up on a number of community planning committees, including one for the Mayday celebration. Her idea of medieval is mashed up with her rival/love interest's idea of tropical for the festival. One of the committee member's favorite tropical drink is a mango daquiri, and thus the Medieval Mango is born. It is similar to a blended mango daquiri but with some mead in it to take you back to medieval times!
We both really enjoyed this one (who doesn't love a daquiri!). It has a fun, summery feel with very little boozy taste. For Susan it was reminiscent of a drink that she would love on a cruise ship. Alas, for her she is not a fan of mango so she rated it a little lower but, would absolutely make it again with strawberries. On the other hand, I love mangos! This was the perfect tropical drink for me (and my husband also loved it!). Cheers and don't forget to have a drink, read a book and be happy!

Recipe
2 oz mango nectar or juice
1.5 oz white rum
1 oz mead
2 tsp lime juice
1/2 cup mango chunks (fresh, frozen or canned)
1/2 cup ice cubes
Put everything in a blender with ice going in last. Blend until everything is smooth. Pour into a daiquiri glass. If it is too thick, use more mango nectar or mead to thin it. Decorate rim with a chunk of mango.
