The Nigerian Killer

Happy 2022 everyone! Our first drink of the year is something I'm calling The Nigerian Killer in honor of our book, My Sister The Serial Killer, set in Nigeria. It is smooth enough that you won't taste the alcohol, but it will definitely sneak up on you and give you a buzz. I wanted to find a traditional Nigerian cocktail and came across something called a Nigerian Chapman. It normally does not have alcohol, so I tweaked it a bit and added brandy to create a cocktail. If you don't like brandy, tequila would also be a good alternative!

Susan and I both thought that this would be a refreshing summertime cocktail. It's beautiful to look at with its wonderful orange/pink hues. Despite having many sweet ingredients, this drink wasn't too sweet (although Susan said hers got sweeter as she drank it). Instead it boasts notes of citrus and cucumber. The flavor of the bitters really comes through which is supposed to be classic for this drink, but it can be a bit much if you're not a bitters fan. This could easily be adjusted to taste. Enjoy and don't forget to have a drink, read a book and be happy!
